Gavin Castleton is releasing a special Halloween single, "Unparallel Rabbits," exclusively on iTunes on October 28th. The song plays a pivotal role in the sequence of his latest full-length solo release Home, due out in early 2009 on Five One Inc.
The album itself is unique not only in its sound (a sonic marriage of artists ranging from Peter Gabriel and Brian Wilson to King Crimson and Prince) but also in it's function. Freshly risen from the devastating remains of a six-year relationship, Castleton set out to design an album that would both document his healing process and deliver comfort to listeners undergoing similar hardship. In what could be described as "a monumental error in judgment," Castleton enlisted the help of his departing lover to help write the story. The result is Home, a 14 song narrative that follows his relationship from the coffee-shop flirtation beginning to the mauled-by-zombies-while-his-girlfriend-leaves-in-a-helicopter-with-some-army-dude end. Ultimately it's an album about making an album: is it healthy to fictionalize your life as a method of coping? When you fall in love, is it not a little bit like a musical? When your heart breaks, is it not a little bit like a horror movie?
The B-side for the Unparallel Rabbits Single is a remix of a song by Gruvis Malt (Gavin's band from 1995-2005) called "Since 1968," about a 4-legged zombie that wins The Annual Monster Dance Party (due to his quadrapedic approach and undead persistence). The remix was masterfully crafted by NY electronica act The Overclock Orchestra (who have a new record due out in November) and mixed by grammy-winner Rob Pemberton, both of whom worked extensively on the production of Home. It is sure to replace the dated Monster Mash as a Halloween dance anthem! - Members:
